The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system that consists of a network of satellites in orbit around the Earth. The GPS satellites are in a Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) at an altitude of about 20,180km or 12,550 miles above the Earth's surface. This altitude is known as the orbital height of the GPS satellites.
